Literacy Homework

We are currently writing instructions in class. We are trying extremely hard to make them clear and easy to understand.

To do this, we have been looking at adding adverbs to improve our work.

Remember, an adverb describes how something is done. For example,

Cautiously, the girl walked into the deserted playground.

The children chatted noisily in class.

The dog wagged his tail quickly.

Write a comment with a sentence that includes an adverb.

The boy died spookly .

My word that was quick Martha! Think about the word spooky. If I wanted to change that to an adverb, what happens to the y at the end?

Great work everyone, I am really impressed by all your efforts. If you like, why don’t you have a go at using adverbs in different parts of your sentences?
You could even rewrite someone else’s sentence in a different way. Don’t forget to be positive and helpful when talking about each other’s work.

For example,

I really like your sentences Myarr. Why not try

Carefully, I balanced on the wooden bench.

I wated nervously to go on stage.

The guinea pigs wated pashently for some hay.

Fiendishly, I ‘borrowed’ our homework idea from your blog Mr Sumner! I am glad I did though, as I have been happily sitting here reading Year 3′s fantastic ideas.

Cheekily, the black and white cat called Whiskers chased the little mouse. But cleverly, the mouse found a shoe and hid in it. Stupidly, mum put her foot in the shoe “AAAAAAAAAAAAAA” sceamed mum. Jordan bravely, picked up the shoe with the mouse and threw it out of the house. Quietly, Whiskers sat down on his blanket and fell into a deep sleep.

…hungrily he put his head in his porridge .

…And greedily ate it up. Unsurprisingly, he ended up
with a mucky face!
